Un55B7000 Samsung - Good But Not Great!
I recently purchased this TV to replace a Vizio plasma that lasted only 15 months. First, it is very disappointing to learn that most, if not all, flat screens seem to be disposable in less than two years. The price on these sets is simply too expensive for life expectancy, this includes my last TV and Samsung.
I do not expect it to last beyond the period indicated, as I have read a number of negative reviews on it. However, as flat-screen TV and go for the money, this seems to look the best in the shop. Everywhere I looked, no other TV on a wall display compares to the clarity.
Unfortunately, I just hung my last night and have already noted the problem of many others about the backlight bleeding through the corners of the screen. What is this like 4 spotlights shining from the corners toward the center with a bright range of about 8 to 10 inches. This problem is more noticeable with darker images, or when the black bars top and bottom are present. Regardless of lighting, however, the problem is always present. The strange thing is the problem does not seem to show up to 8 hours of viewing.
Another oddity is the apparent lighting changes that occur when the picture changes. It is often very obvious that the slightest change in the picture will cause the set to make gradual adjustments to the brightness of the entire image. I do not know how to explain it better except to say that when something small in the picture should be brighter, the entire image becomes brighter for a moment and down adjusts accordingly. The process of brightening or dimming adjustments is a bit 'too slow or gradual.
In addition to problems of size, I would much rather go back to CRT TVs until all the quirks and foibles associated with flat panel technology is perfected. But as a flat panel display going, this set provides the best picture I've seen yet.
I, for example, found the menu system to be fairly easy to navigate settings and reasonably easy to understand and adjust. I dislike is that it takes a bit 'too much screen real estate.
Regarding the audio, I'm using a home theater system, so I took the opportunity to see this feature for comments. I will say this, I am a bit 'annoying when the TV is on or off, has an intro and outro theme tune similar to MS Windows. For me it's a bit 'in bad taste, but a little quirk I can live with.
Another interesting thing to note, if you use a standard coaxial cable, be prepared for a fight to get that sucker attached to the TV. Because of the slim, all component connections are almost directly against the surface of the rear of the set. Moreover, the available connections are very limited.
All in all, this series is reasonable for a flat screen television with best picture in its class. The only thing that is most likely the better the Samsung 8000 series. But note that it has flaws too is that I won in finding information about these televisions.
On the down side, I do not think it's price tag is all that is reasonable, nor do I believe that the higher the end-8000 series to a whopping $ 4000 + is one. Simply, the cost of home entertainment has become just a little 'too expensive for the quality and life expectancy, or lack thereof.
