Can i hook up hdmi to blue ray then component cables to tv?
I have a Mitsubishi HD1080 series tv.
A Vizio blue ray dvd player.
If i get a HD cable box from Comcast; the hd box will plug into wall through coaxle. Then use HDMI cable to hook up comcast hd box to the blue ray player. Then use component cables to connect blue ray player to my tv.
Will that work to get high definition?
The reason for component cables is because my tv does not have HDMI.
TV Guy is correct, and so is Installing Flats, but he needs to learn to read before he comments.
What TV Guy said is that only HDMI CAN support a 1080p signal, which is true. What Installing Flats incorrectly read was that HDMI can ONLY support a 1080p signal, which is not true. HDMI can carry any signal, up to and including 1080p as well as audio. Once you get past his reading comprehension issues, Installing Flats is correct. There is some talk of starting to broadcast in 1080p, but it is not yet common practice. The main source of 1080p content right now is blu-ray.
Now to answer your actual question, the best way to hook up your current equipment without a receiver, is to go directly from both your HD cable box and blu-ray player, to your HDTV using component cables. Because component cables only carry video and not audio, you will also need to run audio cables (optical, coaxial, or analog depending what your TV accepts) from each source to either your TV or a receiver, which you didn't mention if you have or not. If you do have a receiver, then you would be better off running things through there first, and then to your TV from the receiver.
