vizio display

how good is a vizio for watching hd and gaming ?
does the brand really matter? isnt the most important thing is the hz , contrast and the display ?
Vizio is an okay up and coming manufacturer. I would expect good but not great image quality results from them. The bigger concern I would have with them though is reliability. If you look across various sites that sell Vizio TVs and the customer reviews, its a very mix bag. There seems to be a noticeable group of complaints on reliability. Now it could just be one series/line, but either way I'd be a bit hesistant with the brand.
Hz matters for bigger TVs, but not so much for smaller sets. As you break 40", but more so 50" it becomes more of an issue. For a gamer, maybe as low as 37", but that might be pushing it.
Contrast again matters more as you get into bigger sets. In 37" and smaller its less of an issue (hence why you don't see LED or Plasma sets in that range, you don't see their advantages).
Brand matters a lot. Better brands use better parts. The better parts result in better image quality. The better parts also result in better reliability. And in some cases the better parts can mean better life spans (your Vizio might only be rated 40,000 - 60,000 hours, where as a rival set from a top tier brand could be as much as 100,000 hours).
I would mostly recommend sticking with Panasonic, Sony, and Samung as your go to options. At least as your first considerations. Though I'd also look towards LG and Sharp as well, they are also strong brands. Vizio might be one of my first "budget" options, but only if I've exhausted all abilities to go with the other brands.
Your eyes matter a lot too. Beyond brand, Hz, contrast, display, whatever, you are watching a TV, not a spec sheet. So you need to go a to a store and look at the sets in person. Look and see what YOUR eyes are truly happy with. That should be at least some sense of the buying experience.
