vizio 42 inch plasma

what a better tv brand and should I go LCD or Plasma?
Bought a vizio flat panel tv like five years ago when they were like 1999.99!!!! My now super cool 720P... wow is out dated with the new 1080P tv's that are thinner, better color and of course half as much now! Anyhow, I'm looking at tv's at Sears and Bestbuy, Costco, and Walmart, and I'm trying to decide which tv brand to go with. Vizio wasn't a bad tv... it actually is holding up like a champ and has given me little to no problems so far. I want to know what everyone thinks. I'm looking to spends 900 bucks on a tv, and want to stay in the size range of 42-50 inches. Also should I go LCD or plasma? the 720P and 1080P does make a difference to me but again I was at Sears last night and some tv's look just as clear in 720P than some of the ones that were 1080P... Let me know where my money should go with this tv.
The best performing and most reliable brand that i've seen in a long time is Panasonic!
As far as LCD vs Plasma, here are some facts you should know about! Plasma TVs have the highest "native" contrast ratios(40,000:1), giving them the blackest blacks and most vivid and rich looking colors! They also have the fastest response times(.001ms) and fastest refresh rates(600hz)! Making them the best at producing the sharpest and smoothest motion possible with content like sports, movies & gaming!
Plasma TVs are also more affordable. For more info see here: http://www.plasma-lcd-facts.co.uk/
And whether or not you need 720p or 1080p depends on the size of the TV and how far you sit away from it! For a 42" 720p...the proper distance is between 8ft to 11ft. For a 42" 1080p...the distance is between 5ft to 7ft. See this chart: http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html
