They're very similar TV's and have really good connectivity. The 2nd one has slightly better specs, but if you're ok with a refurbished TV, the 1st one is a very good deal - a new one at amazon is $899.
I have no idea where the other poster got his information, but LCD TV's are much brighter than Plasma's and better suited to today's brighter rooms. If you have a dark room, then you may want to consider plasma, but it sounds like you've done your research already.
