Is there anything wrong with buying a no-name TV?
Like visio? A 37in Visio flat screen HD at Sears is $100 cheaper than a 37in Sony Flat screen HD... Why? What is wrong with buying a no-name TV? I mean, as long as you get the warranty, I don't see a problem!
It comes down to picture quality and long term reliability. The bigger brand names invoke more confidence on both levels. Well in terms of picture quality, forget confidence, its just out right better. In terms of reliability, I think its a little less of a concern as long as the "no-name" brand is still kind of a name. Vizio is kind of a name. They are making a name for themselves as a respectable budget priced TV. But their picture quality is not on par with most of the top tier brands.
Model numbers mean a lot though. If you're willing to pay the $100 if someone can justify it to you, then maybe ask another question quoting the specific model of Sony you're looking at and the specific model of Vizio you're looking at. Its easier to make a comparison then. With that information, I lean to the Sony 100%. But if its a really low tier Sony, I might switch to the Vizio. It would have to be one of Sony's true bottom of the line options, but as you didn't quote a model number it may or may not be that, I can't tell.
