Poor picture on new Sanyo 42" LCD HDTV?
I purchased a new Sanyo 42" LCD HDTV. The picture is a bit fuzzy. It is not horrible, but not what I expected. Some time ago I purchased a VISIO 42" LC HDTV, and it's picture was wonderful. (Unfortunatley the TV imploded within 2 days). So I did not understand why the picure on the Sanyo would not be as good. I called my Cable provider on Satruday and they told me I needed to by a HD Box from them (for an extra $60 a year). Why did I not need on with the other TV? Also, do some TV's come with and some without something called a digital tuner? Does that make a difference? Can I get this HD Box from some other source other than my cable company? Is there a better solution? Thank you.
The calibre of the picture is a function of the format in which the program was made as well as the type of TV signal you are watching.
Some lower-numbered channels in Standard Definition (non-HD) do not look as good as SD channels at higher channel positions. Also, bear in mind that TVs are pre-set at the factory to a certain picture. (That is why TV set pictures look different in the store when you seem side by side. The store takes them out of the box and plugs them in-they don't adjust them for the best picture because they don't know what that is-each viwere is different.)
Your set will have a menu where you can adjust a variety of settings manually for the picture you (contrast, brightness, sharpness, color, hue etc). The manual will explain all this but you will have to do a little trial-and-error to find the picture you liike best (don't use channels 2-13 for this - I use those in the 30s or up). Once you find what you like, then move to the next step as I explain in the next paragraph.
Yes, you need an HD box to see HD programming. You can usually buy a box that is cheaper than renting it from the cable company. I cannot understand why the store where you bought the TV did not ask you about having an HD box, either rented from your cable company or one that you purchased yourself. The box will also come with a manual and you will have to install it and play with its settings as well.
Lastly, you will have to learn which channels that are HD from, your provider (try the website) and ensure that the service level you have gives you some of those or else you will have to pay to get some.
