Photo Framing Supplies
Photo framing supplies. There are superior photo framing supplies available that can be used to help preserve your framed artwork. You can choose from a wide selection of framing supplies including wood frames, metal frames, as well as several different types of mount board and mat board. There are a plethora of methods for attaching your artwork to the mount as well, including hinging tape, photo corners and adhesives. Glazing choices range from glass to several types of acrylic. Your photo framing supply choices will depend on the type and value of the piece of art as well as the permanency of the framing choice.
Metal frames are a great choice for framing photographs because their simple lines do not detract in any way from the photograph, while wood frames are often used for fine art pieces such as paintings. Wooden frames can be custom made to suit the particular piece of artwork you wish to frame, and can utilize colored mats that will enhance the colors used in your artwork.
A piece of artwork's long life can be aided by the use of acid-free products for framing, and this can include the mount board, mat board and means of attaching the artwork to the mount. To prevent damage to your photo from temperature and humidity fluctuations, photo corners are often used to secure the photo in a layer between mount board, mat and the glazing. Photo corners also allow you the flexibility to change out the frame, mount or mat board at any time, because the corners are not affixed to the mount. Photos can also be mounted by using acid-free hinging tape or adhesives. Your choice will depend on the amount of conservation required for your photo, as well as your need to remove the photo from the mount board at any time in the future.
The glazing framing supplies you choose can help preserve your artwork by filtering out harmful light that can damage it. Acrylic comes in a standard variety, as well types that filter out UV rays and glare that comes from light hitting the glazing. Acrylic is light weight and not easily broken. Glass can also be used for glazing, and it provides a hard surface that resists scratches. Although it is less expensive than acrylic, it is heavier and can break easily.
There are many excellent choices for photo framing supplies, so you can select the ones that will both preserve your artwork and protect it from atmospheric damage.
