Sony Bravia Z5100 vs. V5100?
I work for a department store, and get a them at a discount from my company, but they don't have the same verity as the electronic stores have, so I limited stock to choose from.
I been checking out flat screens for months now, and have narrowed it down to the Bravia, it seems to be the best brand my work carries. The problem is I not sure if the Z series is really worth the extra money over the V series. Is the picture really that much better should I go for it, or should I just save my money and go for the V series
I read all the specs on both of them, in fact that the reason I dropped the XBR9, because I couldn't see the advantages of it over the Z series, which is similar and cheaper.
Z = Bravia 3 / 240Hz Refresh
V = Bravia 2 / 120Hz Refresh
From a technical standpoint, yes it is better. But what does that actually mean practically in terms of image quality? That's an aesthetic that you need to decide on your own as a consumer/buyer. Its your viewing experience, its your money. So you need to watch a couple of demanding things on both sets and see.
I would watch some sports and The Dark Knight on both. For the sports, check and see how the motion looks with the 120Hz vs 240Hz features. With the Dark Knight look at the blacks. Are you seeing shades of grey or clumps of black? Basically are you seeing detail in the shadows. Then decide if the V series is delivering an adequate image for your needs. If it is, save the money.
Remember to stand back about the same distance as you would be at home watching it. If you get close enough you might see flaws that aren't actually going to be there for your viewing experience.
