spec's seem near the same. If anyone looked into this as I have and went with one of the two whats the reasons you liked one over the other, thanks!
Does your Samsung have "mura" (the japanese word for "unevenness""Black Clouding) is a quality control issue. Some sets have it, some don't. The larger the panel is, the harder it is to build it perfectly, and the nature of LCD backlighting makes it difficult to build a large, LCD screen that renders a pure black screen evenly without clouding. But not impossible. You see many 40" sets with no mura at all. Other manufacturers' 52's that have fewer accolades about their onscreen images don't seem to have the problem, although, admittedly, their operating images may not look anywhere near as good as images seen on the Bravia.
The KDL-52W140 has an 8 bit screen capable of only reproducing 72% of the NTSC color range. If you plan on watching Blue Ray DVDs or the emerging broadcasted 1080p movie channels, then consider that the Sony KDL-52XBR6 is a 10 bit screen. A 10 bit screen can reproduce 1 billion color gradations. The XBR will not produce color banding as the KDL-52WL140. You also get support for x.v.Color and Deep Color, the ability of the XBR to reproduce the full color spectrum captured on film and available via Blue Rays.
P.S. Many of Sony's and all of Samsung's LCD screens are manufactured from the same facility. Sony & Samsung co-funded this LCD screen production facility. They share technology. Sony has no edge in the production of large LCD screens without mura over Samsung. In fact, Sony had mura problems in their 2006 XBR series before they paid Samsung for a transfer of LCD technology in 2007. Sony does not currently manufacture any of their own LCD screens. The lower-end Sony models also use LCD screens from LG and, soon, Sharp.
