How important are hertz in an LCD HDTV?
We were about to purchase a Sony Bravia 42 inch but were talked out because it only has 60 hz. Most of the TV's that are in our price range have 60. We did find a Phillips that has 120 hz and it is affordable and seems to have everything the Sony has. I guess I just don't know if we should pay for the better brand name or get the Phillips since it has higher hz. The sony w/ 120 hz is like $600 higher.
So it was explained to us that hertz has to do w/ the refresh rate and 120 will make the picture more crisp. Is that w/ HDTV or more so for video games/DVDs? We are not gamers and seldom watch DV D's.

120hz will not make the picture more crisp. It will make it less choppy and more fluid in the movement. 120hz is better for sports and action movies plus video games. If you want to save a couple of dollors check out Sharp & Samsung, just as good and cheaper. Stay away from phillips, you get what you pay for...
