sony bravia theater dav-hdx500
Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX500?
Why won't my new sony theater system play the tv sound. I have my hdmi cord going from my sony reciever to the back of my tv. i have read instuctions from top to bottum on my tv and stereo and have no sound threw my new speakers when i watch tv.
Is the connection on the TV an input or output? Most are inputs ... and won't give you any sound.
I can't give precise details since I don;t know what connections you have available, nor what you are trying to do, so the following is a bit generic.
First you have to decide where the video and sound are coming from. If from a satellite or cable box they go from there to the input of the receiver (and that feeds sound to the speakers) and the video can go on to the TV. This can be via HDMI if present or by a combination of component (red, blue, green) for video and optical or other for the sound.
On the other hand if the TV tunes in the station
it is possible to have the sound go out to the receiver and then to the speakers. This means you need an audio out connection from the TV to the receiver. This is most commonly an optical digital connection (for surround sound) or analog (RCA) for stereo.
Check, and if that is what you have, and decide how you want to process the signal, then choose the right cable types and input and output jacks.
Note that HDMI will carry both audio and video, but you can use it for video alone and carry audio on separately.
Finally, note that on some systems there are menu settings to make to select which inputs connect to which signal path ... and these will have to be considered. They can be present in both the TV and the receiver, so it can get complicated! The important point is to try to visualize (it sometimes helps to draw it) the various options and select the inputs/outputs and switch settings accordingly.
Hope this helps.
