4 years best buy service plan on a SONY BRAVIA 40" inch, does it worth it ?
i am buying a sony bravia 40' inch Model: KDL-40W5100 and they are trying to sell me 4YR Geek Squad LCD TV Protection Plan $189.99, do you think what should i do ?
plus they are trying to sell me the TV calibration for $200 so instead of i pay $1200 after taxes i will pay almost $1600 with the service plan and the calibration,can i do the calibration on my own ?
Skip the calibration.
Take the time to dial the set in yourself. Buy test discs, or visit the AVS forums for help.
Overall, the protection plans are something that favors the house, which in this case would be bestbuy. Stores make tons of dough on these things because most TVs don't fail and for every plan they sell it's free money. So understand that going in.
So here's my general rule about these things. Think to yourself for a moment, if this TV fails after its own warranty is over (1 year?) will you have the money/credit to replace it immediately? If so, skip the 4 year plan.
If you know that you will absolutely not have the funds to replace, then buy it. Also understand that TVs are getting cheaper and better by the month. There were people just 5 years ago that paid 3 thousand for a TV like the one you have now that paid 300 bucks for coverage.. and then never used it. For the price of calibration and 4 year plan alone, you'll be able to buy this TV at this quality 2-3 years from now.
