sony bravia 32 xbr9
I'm looking at 32" TV's and cant decide between the Samsung LN32B460 , Sony BRAVIA XBR9 HDTV, Sharp LC-C3234u?
I'm also looking at the sony kdl32s5100. Can anybody give advice on which one to get based on picture quality, overall durability and quality and value. By value, I mean bang for the buck. I don't care to much about extra features or play games to often. It will mainly be used for watching TV and DVD's with an upconversion player, and occasional PS2 useage. Thanks for any help.
All three brands are top tier brands. So from a technical standpoint you're not likely to find vast differences between them. Its kind of a draw in that sense (yes some might argue for one brand over the other, but its going to be more personal tastes than valid technical based arguments).
So I think you should go to a store and just use your eyes. Stand back at a natural viewing distance and look at the sets. Do you see a difference at all? If you do, go with the one that looks best. If you don't, go with the one that is the cheapest. Everyone's visual sensitivities are different, so you need to bring your own eyes and gut feelings into this equation at some point.
Of the ones you list though, technically speaking, the XBR9 is the most advanced option. The other ones are entry level models from the respective brands. The XBR9 however is the flagship model from Sony. So it has all of the cutting edge features. So in theory, from a technical sense, it should provide a better picture. But at 32", how noticeable those advantages are could be very limited. That's why I highly recommend going and looking in a store. Because the XBR9 will likely cost you more, so you should make sure it makes it worthwhile for your eyes.
At 32" I really like the Sony KDL-32L5000 or Panasonic TC-L32C12 (or X1). I think those are solid performing sets, usually found at decent prices. But yet again, you need to look for yourself and see. I would recommend using Amazon to get some prices. Then either buy from them if you're okay with that, or take their prices into say Best Buy or ABC Warehouse and see if they'll price match (quite often Amazon is a bit cheaper).
