How To Use Your Lcd Tv As A Computer Monitor
You've just bought your beautiful new state of the art LCD flat panel TV. A quick comparison with the little computer LCD screen, and the computer looks a bit shabby. The question is unavoidable: Should you get a new monitor for your computer, too? Wouldn't it be great to play your games and watch internet TV on the new LCD television?
Now the good news. It can be done. You can hook up your new LCD TV to your computer, and save money, and get the screen quality of the LCD television as well. It's pretty easy to do, too.

- You can use your computer and the TV screen to show off your holiday videos and pictures to a whole room full of people.

What You Will Need
The hardware is easy to find, and it's all standard equipment.
You'll need:
- VGA input, or HDMI
- S-video
- A composite or other cable appropriate for your TV and computer configurations.
- Adaptor if necessary depending on your equipment
- Wireless technology saves you having to rearrange the room and put the computer next to the TV
Step By Step
There's no mystery to setting up your equipment, it's just a matter of making the correct links to operate the LCD TV screen and computer together.
Important: Please note if you're not sure about any part of this process, or the equipment you need, your TV manufacturer's web site or local service will be able to help. Many TV – computer connections are now standardized, but it's best to be absolutely sure.
Before doing anything, it's a good idea to check the computer and TV and make sure you can identify all the connections involved in your hookup.
The actual setup process is quite simple:
- Turn off both TV and computer.
- Position the TV and computer so that you have them within cable length of each other, unless using wireless technology.
- Disconnect the monitor from the computer system. (Leave the mouse, keyboard, etc, connected.)
- Connect the VGA cable (the big multi point cable attached to the monitor) from the computer to the VGA port of the TV.
- Turn on the computer.
- Turn on the TV, select the TV as the video source. Check the user manual to select the computer as the source. (This process varies with models of TV.)
- You're now ready to go!
