According to iSuppli Corporation, after a year of losses or zero returns, the world's large-size LCD panel business return to profitability in the third quarter. Illustrate market trends and give an example, 32-inch HDTV LCD panels are the most popular size of large panels in the third quarter of its industry-wide profits of up to 13%.
In contrast, in 2009 the first and second quarters of 32-inch panels were a loss of 31% and 12% in 2008 fourth-quarter loss of 23%. In the third quarter of 2008, 32-inch high-definition TV panel margins to zero. The last time industry in the 32-inch high-definition LCD TV panels to achieve a profit or in the second quarter of 2008, when the rate of return is 19%.
LCD panel is not profitable for so long the main reason for the market in the extreme state of oversupply, which led to LCD panel prices are below cost of production. However, the manufacturer cuts and reduced capacity utilization, coupled with China's television market demand for the panels better than expected in the third quarter to help the industry return to profitability.
LCD panels used in the manufacture of glass shortage of panels in the third quarter also contributed to the tight supply market, a factor which further increased the price and profits.
According to iSuppli's preliminary forecast released by the third quarter of the world's large-size LCD panel shipments reached 148.3 million, compared with second quarter of 2009 grew by 14.3% over the third quarter of 2008 increased 28.9%. iSuppli expects that as more companies to report third-quarter results, you may need to amend its original forecast.
Second quarter of 2009, LG Display is the world's largest makers of large-size LCD panel shipments accounted for 25.3%. This gives slightly ahead of LG Electronics Samsung's major competitors, the latter's share is 24.6%. While iSuppli has not yet determined the company its third-quarter market share of LCD monitors, but preliminary indications that the third quarter, LG Electronics and Samsung will be very close.
Factory capacity utilization rates rise, as well as the Christmas shopping season, a drop in demand after the panel will be the fourth quarter of 2009 to promote large-size LCD panel market oversupply, in line with normal seasonal patterns. However, unlike the fourth quarter of 2008 compared to the fourth quarter of this year's prices and only a modest decline in shipments. Many panel suppliers just return to profitability, are still strict control of inventory, does not intend to significantly reduce prices.
