Is a Plasma HDTV too high tech or an LCD HDTV too costly for you? A good alternative for large screen home entertainment with HDTV performance is a Rear projection HDTV like the Sony Bravia SXRD KDS-50A3000 503 1080p Projection HDTV. It costs about $1,270 online which for a 50" HDTV is by far the cheapest option available! Also, it's a lightweight! Weight: 75 lbs or 34 kg.
The display quality is far better than a normal CRT (cathode ray tube) television. With the Sony Rear projection HDTV, you receive quality viewing pleasure, & a large 50" screen, & decently sized footprint, all for only a fraction of the price of a Plasma HDTV or an LCD HDTV! You can't hang it on the wall like the flat panel HDTVs but you can flush it into a modified wall opening because its about 14.5" thick/deep which is about double that of it slimmer & much more expensive cousins.

The KDS-50A3000 also features an advanced iris function for increased contrast and detail in even the darkest scenes, and x.v.Color technology to deliver more accurate color reproduction than common televisions.
The light source is a 120W, UHP projection lamp. Most manufactures rate UHP lamps for around 2000 hours (to half brightness) or about a year of heavy use. A replacement lamp for the KDS-50A3000 is user replaceable & at current prices, costs $249.99. Poor 480i-to-1080p video processing so buyers are recommended to use a good upconverting DVD player like the Pioneer Elite DV-79AVi for a far more detailed image from DVDs. Nonetheless, 1080i-to-1080p high-definition deinterlacing is satisfactory. It's good enough considering you are comparing it to flat panels more than double its price.
On Motion Processing, the Sony KDS-50A3000 is a 120Hz set that offers two features designed to minimize motion blur: Motion Enhancer and Motion Naturalizer. The KDS-50A3000 has good blacks, particularly with the Auto iris engaged. It's brighter than most Plasmas & has better blacks than most LCDs. Useful wider range of picture adjustments than most bargain flat panels. Overall, the KDS-50A3000 offer excellent value & strong HD performance for both color & resolution.
