Why should you not connect a PC to a HDMI input on a HDTV monitor?
Even though I have seen some devices to convert VGA to HDMI, the manual for my Toshiba HDTV monitor (51HC85) warns to never connect this monitor to a PC.
There is no explaination why. Does anyone know? Thanks!
You have what is called a rear-projection CRT monitor. The reason that you have a warning not to connect a PC is because there is a risk of screen "burn-in". This happens when an idle image is left on the screen for an extended period of time. Video games and computers tend to have brighter pictures with sharper contrast and increase the risk of a burn-in. If you purchase an LCD, plasma or DLP television, you won't have a problem with burn-in because they use a different type of technology. You still have an awesome television. Don't ruin it by connecting your PC or playing video games for too long.
