Video Splitter: Boosts, amplifies and splits signals from a single source to multiple display devices
A video signal can be split and displayed on more than one display device simultaneously using a Video Splitter. These splitters are available in 2, 4, 8 and 16 ports and support respective display devices. By daisy chaining these devices, an even greater number of displays can be achieved. This splitting device not only replicates the signal but also transfers it to an output device situated at a distance away from the source. Maximum distance to which the signals can be transferred over Cat5 cable is 950 feet. A built-in signal booster enhances the video quality, delivering crystal clear images as if all the monitors were directly connected to the PC.
Depending upon the format of the video signals, these splitters are available in various models. The most basic is the VGA Splitter whereas the high end version is the HDMI Splitter. The latter allows set-top boxes, DVD players, D-VHS players and other HDTV devices with a HDMI outputs to be connected to two or more HDTV displays. This compact high definition device uses a single cable instead of several cables in order to connect to the HDTV display. Supporting resolutions of 720i, 720p and 1080p along with HDCP compliant devices, these splitters work on plug and play functionality. Available in 2, 4 and 8 ports, these devices also have a matrix format. By daisy chaining two or more HDMI Splitter units a larger distribution and longer length can be achieved. A Splitter which is particularly effective in a large-scale KVM switching and surveillance system is the Quad Screen Splitter.
It enables display and monitor of video signals from four different computers or video sources simultaneously on a single screen with keyboard and mouse operation. These devices work in several modes: Quad mode in which the screen is split into four fields of equal size, PIP mode in which up to all three other video sources are displayed on the right-hand side of the full-screen image as thumbnails, allowing them to be monitored simultaneously, Dual mode or Split Screen mode in which half the screen is populated by one video connection and the other half by a second connection side by side at full size and the Full screen mode in which one of the four video sources is shown at full screen size and maximum resolution.
