For HDTV experts, which one is the best of the best for 32' 720p LCD HDTV: Sony Bravia or Samsung? Please help
Hands down, Samsung will provide you with the better picture, simply because of the way their circuitry provides the ability to display the darkest blacks, and the brightest whites. It also has a swivel base, compared to the Sony with the classic stationary LCD layout. The Samsung has a listed dynamic contrast of 8000:1, whilst the Sony's isn't listed, but it's believed to be within 7000-8000:1. The Samsung has a thinner profile than the Sony along with a Piano black finish, compared to the Sony's "square" box shape. The SRS TruSurround XT enabled speakers on the Samsung provides unbelievable sound compared to the Sony. The only advantage I can think of on the Sony is the remote: It's simple, easy to use and especially easier for the elderly and children to use. By pressing the "Home" key on the remote, you can access Sony's Emmy Award winning menu system where you can cycle through every option on the TV with a brief description of every item. With Samsung being the leading LCD manufacturer in 2007 and 2006, I'd definitely go with the Samsung.
FYI:
Contrast ratio - Basically, in a nutshell, this is your picture clarity, without a high number on the left, and a low on the right (1 in most cases), you will not have a clear picture like you should. With most brands, anything over 6000:1 is decent for a 32" LCD. Keep in mind that the contrast ratio should only be used for comparing models within the same brand. Though in this case, Samsung and Sony both using CFL backlighting, it's okay to compare the two.
