TV vs Monitor, Is this a good idea?
I have a 26" 720p LCD TV I am using as my primary monitor, and a 1440x900 19" Wide screen LCD I am using as my secondary monitor. A friend of mine wants an HDTV. I'm wondering, is selling this TV to him and buying a 23" 1080p LCD Monitor a good idea? I lose 3 inches of viewing area but I gain a higher resolution and probably more crisp looking text.
I'm using windows XP not Vista, can I even view things in true progressive scan HD with this OS?
My video card has an HDMI output that I am using with the TV and would use with the monitor, so cable connection is the best it can possibly be... I think it's an ATI Radeon HD4830 or something like that.
One more thing: I intend on eventually getting a PS3 to play FF13 and hooking it up to the monitor. If I switch from TV to monitor how would I hear the PS3? Is there an easy way to have my speakers plugged into both the PS3 and the PC, like a receiver or something?
The text isn't going to look any sharper on the 23" 1080p LCD monitor, but it will look smaller than on your 26" 720p LCD TV.
The text on the 23" monitor in fact will look similar in size to the text on your 19".
If you don't want to give up the big text, stick with the 26" LCD. If you don't mind the smaller text but want more resolution, go for it.
And if you want to hook up your PS3 to an LCD monitor, you should make sure the LCD monitor has an HDMI input. (HDMI carries both high-definition video and audio).
