Vizio or Phillips for Flat Panel, what to go for?
I have been looking into tvs and was wondering what brand is better. Here is what I have been looking at: Phillips has an 42 inch 1080 LCD with 29000:1 contrast for only 799.99. However, Vizio has a 720p Plasma 42 inch with 30000:1 contrast for 698.00. Which one would you get. Also someone offered me a sharp, its a year old and used. Its a 46 inch LCD 1080 for 800.00, it has no warranty. Personally I dont care if a tv is 720 or 1080, cause I am not getting HD cable. I just want to get the tv for sports viewing, movies( rarely ), and a little gaming, xbox 360.
Okay, this is what is tripping me up here. The whole debate between LCDS and plasmas.Best Buy tells me Plasmas are good, others say LCDs??? Also, I know the burn ins with tvs and the ghosting of LCDs, if that is right or not. However, which one of the tvs should I go for that I mentioned? Also, what do you prefer plasma or lcd? Thanks
Philips, hands down! While Philips/Magnavox (same mfg.) is kind of a bottom of the barrel brand name TV, at least you have a reasonable chance of getting timely service and parts when needed. Vizio is a third tier junk TV assembled from god-only-know what kind of cheap Chinese parts. In 42" LCD, the best for both performance and reliability are, pretty much in order: 1. Sony Bravia; 2. Toshiba Regza; 3. Sharp Aquos; 4. Samsung; 5. Maybe LG. After this, quality just falls off too fast to take the chance.
Perhaps the best buy for you, dollar-for-dollar, is the very high quality 720p Panasonic Viera plasma, a superior HDTV and suitable for your games, if you can follow directions and are not stupid. Good hunting.
