Back Light Inverter
Problem with Dell laptop back-light?
I was wondering if anyone knew what was wrong! The back-light on my Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop seems to go off every so often...and sometimes it comes back on after half a second or so, but sometimes it will last for a few minutes. I figured that this pointed to a loose connection somewhere, but does anyone know how I should find it? I was also wondering, could this be caused by a failure of the LCD inverter? Should I replace it?

Pull off the screw covers on the screws around the screen. Remove the screws. Using a thin, flat prying surface, pry out and up to separate the two halves of the screen.
You can now "get at" the inverter. Of course, you *might* have to remove the 8 screws holding the screen, to remove the screen, unscrew the inverter, and maneuver the inverter out... but at least you can check the connections.
However, don't be surprised if the connections are tight. Inverters are not permanent fixtures. They do go bad... and Dell doesn't use the best quality ones to begin with.
