RCA Multi-Directional Digital Flat Amplified Antenna vs Audiovox Directional Indoor UHF/VHF HDTV Antenna?
which one of these 2 will give me better reception?? they are about the same price or is there any other good indoor antenna under $50?
It’s impossible to tell which antenna will give you or anyone else “better reception” without additional information, particularly mapping your location with respect to the TV transmitters in your area. Nevertheless, if those were the only two antenna choices then without hesitation I would pick Audiovox’s Terk HDTVA antenna over any of the RCA antennas but only the Terk HDTVA model specifically. That said, notably better indoor antenna choices would be the somewhat similarly styled Winegard SS-3000 E-field antenna or the distinctly different ClearStream2™ antenna or the DB2 two-bay bow-tie antenna from Antennas Direct, the latter two being strictly UHF TV antennas.
As I mentioned earlier, if you haven’t already done so, you should thoroughly map your location using a Website such as TV Fool before purchasing any antenna(s). This will allow you to determine with reasonably good confidence what type of antenna and related equipment you’ll need in order to obtain the best reception; just be sure to read the TV Signal Analysis FAQ before you begin the mapping process using the TV Fool Website.
Lastly, always use well-shielded, low-loss, precision 75Ω coaxial cable to connect the antenna to your TV or applicable video equipment. I highly recommend using tri-shield RG-6/U coaxial cabling, such as Belden’s excellent 1694A RG-6/U coaxial cable (readily available from Blue Jeans Cable and others.) It’s very important that the coaxial cable used to connect to your antenna be properly terminated. RF noise can be far more detrimental when it comes to OTA digital television reception than it was for analog TV reception, thanks in no small part to the well-known digital “cliff effect.”
