50 hdtv flat screen tv
new plasma hdtv owner, cable/hdmi cable question?
i have never owned any flat screen or had an hdtv before. buying a samsung 50" plasma, i have time warner cable with the digital cable box in the family room with the basic HD package. time warner gave me some grey (what looks like but not sure) component wires for 'when i upgrade my tv' the installer said. i have heard best buy / circuit city, etc charge an arm and a leg for hdmi cables and to NOT buy them from the chain stores. what will i need to my tv hooked up? will the grey cords my twc guy gave me work, or should i buy something else/better, like on eaby? i just want to have everything ready to go when i make my purchase and looking for some guidance, thanks!
also, what if i later add a ps3 (mainly for blueray) and possibly surround sound? then what? thanks!
The cables from the Time Warner are pretty good actually. They should be using Broadband Products Inc or some company like that our industry has approved. Using component just means having that more cables than the HDMI (And losing digital surround sound ability), but is still good, but to further the question about using a ps3 and home theater you would want to get an HDMI cable to go from the box to the receiver to be able to get the true surround sound experience.
The ps3 would use whatever connection you are going to use and many receivers have multiple HDMI inputs and one output so expect to purchase at least three HDMI's. You will be glad you did when you finally have it all the pieces together and balanced.
