37 hdtv 720p

Box said 1080i but the TV was an 720p can anyone explain?
I purchased a 37" proscan LCD HDTV 720p but when i got home the box said 1080i theres not even a 1080i for that size for proscan. and best buy only carries 720p and i looked up the serial and it says 720p...Can anyone explain that is my tv really a 1080i or what haha
>Can anyone explain that is my tv really a 1080i
It's not a 1080i HDTV, but it can accept a 1080i signal.
Your HDTV is 720p. That means the actual display is always 720p, no matter what signal you send to it.
It can accept a 1080i signal, the HDTV will just downconvert it to 720p so it matches the screen resolution. The extra picture detail (1080i v.s. 720p) is discarded in the conversion process.
And if you feed it an 480i signal, it will upconvert it to 720p. To upconvert the 480i signal, the computer chip in the HDTV basically guesses what the missing picture information would be (480i v.s. 720p) and displays the result.
