LCD TVThe LCD TV is no doubt the number one TV sold today.  It certainly didn't used to be that way.  No question that tube televisions used to dominate the landscape.  Even just a few years ago both plasma and LCDs became available but they were not cost effective yet.

There also were and still are a variety of projection TVs.  These include front projection and rear projection.    Yes there are still a multitude of CRT based televisions too.  But ask ANYONE who wants a new TV and 9 times out of 10 they will be looking for an LCD television.   We have another post that will go into the details of why.

Suffice it to say that my wife and I are Hi-Def enthusiasts.   We started out like everyone with a tube based TV.  Heck our first one didn't even have a remote control.  I thought "who cares about that".  Well OK I do now, just like everyone else.  Later we moved into *remote control* tube based TVs and NOW we are living uptown!

We had cable TV but the company I worked for made satellite receivers at one time so I dug a GIGANTIC hole in the ground and installed a 10 dish and put in our own sat receiver.  We did it by ourselves.  I felt like an space explorer.  I remember that first night sitting out in the back yard with an extension chord, receiver and TV out under the monster dish.  Of course now days you just call up one of the providers and they put a little dish on your roof and away you go.  But that was then and this is now.  MUCH different.

Woman Watching TVSo next we found a rear projection Pioneer Elite TV to bring home.  Ironically I was into surround sound and have a recording studio.  I took my wife to this upper end stereo store to hear this surround sound and win her approval.  It was hooked up to this Pioneer rear projection TV.  I said..."listen to that sound".  She said..."Look at that PICTURE!".  I said..."LISTEN to that surround sound".  She said..."NO...look at that PICTURE!"  I looked over and saw the pouty face and we came home with a HUGE (for the time) 45" rear projection Pioneer Elite TV.

We never regretted that decision.  Except for the part that our front room was small and the TV was too big.  But we loved it.  (I eventually DID get a wonderful surround sound system for much less money by the way.)

We used that TV for YEARS!  It was fantastic and the center of many discussions from friends and guests alike.  But all things come to an end and it started giving us lots of trouble.  Well we were spoiled now so going back to a 10" color tube model just wasn't gonna cut it. :)

So out comes the wallet and we end up with a GIMUNGOUS 65" Mitsubishi Diamond Scan rear projection TV.  It was hi-def where as all the TVs before were not.  Realize this was still a number of years ago and flat panels were still not mainstream and there were very few BIG ones.  And most of them were either not hi def or were made with unaffordium!

The good news is we had moved into a new home with a high ceiling and a HUGE front room so now the big monster Mitsubishi Diamond Scan was to scale.  It actually fit and looked great from the dining room.

Again we used it for years without incident.  The reliability of TVs these days is really pretty good.  But AGAIN, all good things must come to an end.  My wife and I were on a business trip and left her mom and aunt baby sitting the animals and the house in general.  We were out in Las Vegas.  Right before we came home to Tulsa, we had one of the worst ice storms in a century back home.  They canceled all the flights and we made it as far as Dallas and drove up to Tulsa.  When we got there the power was on, the fireplace was going and nobody was there.

UH OH!

Well it turns out the power had been going on and off while they were watching TV and so every time power would go off they would just turn the TV back on.

BAD IDEA!

Woman Watching LCD TVNeedless to say, the TV ended up dead.  This was year end.  The bowl games were coming up and our Alma Mater  was in a big bowl game.  No big screen hi def TV.  NOPE that wan't gonna do.

So credit card in hand off to the local TV emporium I go.  THIS time I came back with the most AWESOME 40" Sony Bravia LCD TV.  CRISP hi-def screen with hi brightness.  OK it wasn't 65" but it was super sharp and actually had much better I/O capability than the Mitsubishi from a few years back.

Still my wife wanted her HUGE screen back due to the size of the room.  So we called out the repairman who tried all his tricks and go it *almost* working.  But he gave up, charged me a minimal service charge and left.  Me being an electrical engineer didn't give up and finally got it fixed.  In fairness the repairman DID do most of the work.  I fixed the smallest part.  But it was the FINAL part.

Now we proudly have the hi-def rear projector in the front room and the super sharp 40"  LCD TV in our bedroom.  Now I look forward to the time that I can bring home a much larger LCD TV for the front room to make both of us happy.

But I know one thing.  At this point in time I will buy NOTHING but LCD TVs until something better comes along.  The price to performance ratio is better than anything else.

So as you can tell we are TV lovers.  So it was totally natural for us to start a TV website.  Look around and you should find examples of just about every brand of TV.  We will have Sony, Pioneer, Visio, Sharp, Toshiba, and more.  You will find TVs down from battery opperated portables to GIANT LCD TVs.  As this site grows you will find more and more examples to choose from so come back often and check us out.

Best of luck on your search for the perfect LCD TV.
